The 1914 Caterpillar is a circular ride running along an undulating track underneath a canopy. As part of the ride is in darkness, Caterpillars were particularly in favour with courting couples. Once a very popular ride found at many amusement parks, there are only a few left operating around the world today.

Dreamland’s Caterpillar operated from 1922 to the 1980s before being decommissioned. The Dreamland Trust has now acquired a Caterpillar from Pleasureland in Southport, which is being assessed for restoration ready for installation in the new park.

More information about this particular ride can be found on the National Fairground Archive website at the University of Sheffield Library HERE
